Manifold Technologies Recognised For Contribution To IBC2026

Manifold Technologies has been recognised for its contribution to the Media eXchange Layer (MXL), which won the Content Creation category at the IBC2026 Innovation Awards.

The award was presented on the main stage of the IBC Conference at RAI Amsterdam on Sunday evening, with technical partners involved in the project receiving certificates to display on their exhibition stands.

MXL is designed to facilitate the handover of video, audio and timed data across shared memory. The technology was recognised for its potential to improve compute efficiency, reduce infrastructure complexity and support the delivery of distributed, live and low-latency content.

The project also places a strong emphasis on interoperability and multi-vendor collaboration. MXL uses open-source code under a permissive licence, allowing developers to build directly on the supplied code rather than being required to implement a specific written specification.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which conceived and implemented the project, adopted this approach with the aim of prioritising interoperability across the industry.

Achieving that goal required input from a broad range of industry stakeholders from the early stages of development. EBU members including CBC/Radio-Canada, BBC, France Télévisions, SVT and VRT were involved from the outset, while broadcasters including Sky, NRK and Warner Bros, alongside vendors such as Intel, Qvest, Sony, Ross and Matrox, contributed knowledge, feedback and code where relevant.

Manifold was introduced to the project at an early stage through EBU member CBC/Radio-Canada. Following its initial feedback, the company continued to participate in the project's Slack channel, contributing particularly to discussions around internode communication.

The company has also taken part periodically in Requirements Council Zoom calls and dedicated working sessions as the MXL initiative has developed.

Manifold's involvement is expected to continue as the project evolves. The company is exploring potential contributions to support FPGA acceleration where required, while interoperability demonstrations are also set to feature prominently in its presence at upcoming industry exhibitions.
