EVS To Modernise ARD Hauptstadtstudio Berlin News Production
EVS is set to modernise the news production infrastructure at ARD Hauptstadtstudio Berlin, the ARD’s central hub for coverage of German federal politics, under a new agreement that will see the broadcaster adopt EVS' MediaCeption® solution.
The deployment will be built around the EVS VIA Media Asset Platform (VIA MAP), a convergent asset management platform designed to provide ARD Hauptstadtstudio with a more flexible, software-defined approach to news production.
The move comes as the broadcaster faces the upcoming end-of-life of its existing hardware-based TV production system. Rather than replacing the legacy infrastructure on a like-for-like basis, ARD Hauptstadtstudio is moving to a software-based platform that can be deployed across cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments.
The new workflow is designed to support the increasing demands of cross-media news production, bringing live ingest, editing, media management, playout and distribution into a unified environment.
VIA MAP will enable journalists and production teams to capture, manage, create and deliver content for television, web and social media platforms. The platform is also intended to support collaboration between journalists and editors while maintaining fast turnaround times for news output.
A key element of the deployment is VIA MAP’s bi-directional integration with Adobe Premiere Pro, allowing editors to continue working within a familiar editing environment while accessing content and production workflows through the wider EVS platform.
The EVS solution will also incorporate the company's server infrastructure. XS-VIA will provide ingest and playout capabilities, while XStore will provide nearline storage, giving production teams high-performance access to content throughout the news production process.
The platform is designed to integrate with ARD Hauptstadtstudio’s existing technology environment, including newsroom computer systems, craft editing and automation platforms. Open APIs will allow the newsroom to add further tools and systems as its production requirements evolve.
According to EVS, the move from the existing hardware-centric infrastructure to a scalable software-defined platform will deliver faster content turnaround and more streamlined production processes, while improving collaboration between teams.
The deployment will also introduce AI-powered production tools as part of the broadcaster’s updated news production environment.
