IBC TV 'Breaks The News' With EVS Solutions

IBC Television News has decided to renew its collaboration with EVS as official provider of the news production workflow for the upcoming IBC exhibition and conference which will be held in Amsterdam from September 10 to 14.
EVS will provide full integrated tapeless solutions for ingest, storage, editing and playout of the HD news programmes broadcast on TV channels as well as on the IBC website.
IBC TV News will produce 20-minute news programmes during the exhibition featuring top stories from the show floe as well as highlights from the IBC Exhibition and Conference. EVS Systems will manage the entire news production of these daily news programmes, from the breakfast and midday news flashes broadcast on the IBC TV News channel, to web-streaming, mobile content and video podcasts.
Sue Robinson, Producer of IBC TV News, said: "The challenge for IBC TV NEWS is to deliver interesting content with the highest quality standards to an audience of broadcast specialists. In 2009, we introduced a full tapeless HD workflow based on EVS for production and storage and JVC for acquisition. The new integrated workflow allowed us to achieve our goals in terms of multi-purpose delivery, fast content creation and training time for our production teams. We were very pleased by these results and therefore decided to extend our collaboration with EVS to this year's show.
The complete tapeless workflow provided for IBC TV News will be based on EVS' full tapeless technologies, including the Xedio modular news production tools for rough cut and non-linear editing and an XS server controlled by IPDirector for acquisition and playout operations. in addition, all clips and edits will remain available on the XStore SAN, an EVS central near line storage, allowing editors to browse and edit the media at any time.
During the show, IBC TV ENG crews, using JVC camcorders (GY-HM700 and GY-HM100), will import their XDCAM EX media files via Xedio Dispatcher, Xedio suite's most recent addition. The new module offers instant review, rough-cut edit and on-the-fly transcoding capabilities during transfer to the EVS production server.
Additional A/V feed acquisition (weather forecast, VTR, graphics) will be managed with the IPDirector ingest scheduler. Once ingested or imported on the XS server, the content will be instantly available for edit or playout.
All edits including voice-over, graphics inserts and transition effects will be prepared by means of one of the three Xedio-CleanEdit stations, the latest generation of EVS NLE systems. Two additional Apple Final Cut Pro stations will be used for final post-production operations. The media interchange between EVS storage and editing tools and Final Cut Pro will be fully transparent for the editors.
Finally, IBC TV News rundown and playlist on-air actions will be controlled by IPDirector, which will manage all the media configured for playout operations on the XS production server.
Nicolas Bourdon, Marketing & Communications Director at EVS, said: "We are proud to contribute to IBC TV News' growing success. The full tapeless solution we have provided to IBC corresponds perfectly to EVS' development in studio news, and combines the strong points of live broadcast technologies with our engineering expertise in IT-broadcast workflow integration."
The IBC TV News will be broadcast to more than 10,000 hotel rooms in Amsterdam each morning before being transmitted worldwide, and will be repeated during the day at the RAI exhibition centre. IBC TV News will be produced on site at the IBC stand in the new the Production Village, located in Hall 11.
EVS will be presenting its latest solutions and technology innovations in Hall 8, Stand B90.
