Geevs and Sony XDCAM make the 'perfect partnership'

Gee Broadcast Systems announces the latest enhancement to its Geevs Video Server family, which is now fully integrated for capture from Sony's revolutionary XDCAM Professional Disc-based tapeless video cameras.
Geevs already supports the capture, management and playout of broadcast-standard video material in a range of formats, including mpeg2 and DV25. MXF compliance within Geevs now allows files from XDCAM simply to be dragged and dropped into Geevs storage. The Geevs database is automatically updated with the new clip information. Close integration between Geevs and XDCAM ensures that recorded material from XDCAM is captured quickly and simply by Geevs and is then immediately available for editing or playout.
Geevs servers have been designed to be flexible, powerful and extremely reliable. Running under a MS Windows O/S on standard PC hardware, Geevs can be supplied with up to eight channels in a single chassis. Many more (50) channels can be integrated in the same system using Gee's GaSSS SAN storage. Software options are available for specific applications, including Geevs Sport, E-Z Delay (time delay), Multi-Cam and E-Z Edit, as well as hardware options that include Gee's new Tac-Tile touch screen controller.
Keith Gee said: "We've been working successfully with Sony for several years now, having partnered with the company to supply nearly 20 Geevs servers for the Sony DV Stations used by Sweden's regional news studio network. DV Stations are an extremely cost-effective newsroom package. By making Geevs XDCAM-compatible, we're keeping ourselves firmly at the forefront of key developments in the continuing digitisation of the broadcast industry, as pioneered by companies like Sony, and that's got to be good news."
Olivier Bovis, XDCAM Marketing Manager at Sony Professional Europe, added: "Partnering with go-ahead and responsive companies like Gee Broadcast means we can bring Sony's technological innovations to the widest possible market. Marrying the power of the Geevs server to XDCAM puts cutting-edge digital video capture, management and handling within reach of every kind of broadcast set-up, regardless of budget."
