Teradek Unveils Bolt 7
Teradek has introduced Bolt 7, a unified wireless platform that combines zero-delay video with a dedicated data link — the most significant refresh to the Bolt range since its 2013 debut.
Available in 750, 1500 and MAX variants for both transmitters (TX) and receivers (RX), every Bolt 7 unit integrates a 900MHz radio that operates in parallel with the zero-delay 4K video signal. This removes the need for Wi‑Fi or extra on‑camera accessories for Ethernet-style workflows. The new series also debuts a 20% smaller TX versus Bolt 6 XT and adds a colour OLED display for faster pairing, control and diagnostics.
Cine workflows are simplified with camera control and zero-delay video carried over a single connection. Bolt 7 TX attaches directly to the camera, avoiding the setup and management of a dedicated on‑set Wi‑Fi network. By using RF paths outside standard Wi‑Fi bands, productions can mitigate interference and reduce wireless congestion.
Camera control can be routed to a remote SmallHD monitor (with optional camera control licence), CTRL.5, laptop or iPad via supported manufacturer or third‑party control apps. Beyond control, the dual video‑and‑data pipeline enables wireless colour management, audio communication and other tasks that previously relied on cables or additional hardware.
For live production, Bolt 7 combines camera telemetry, video shading and zero‑delay wireless video in one link, replacing multi‑box configurations. Crews can feed zero‑delay video to a switcher while delivering telemetry to a Sony or Cyanview RCP in an OB truck or control room — without juggling separate systems. While other products may send video and data, Teradek says Bolt 7 uniquely preserves the zero‑delay performance required in professional live environments.
Bolt 7 TX adds a USB‑C port for single‑cable, zero‑delay video and communications in iPhone camera workflows, and supports DP‑Alt Mode (DisplayPort Alternate Mode) for compatible cameras and monitors.
Product line-up and features:
- Bolt 7 TX comes in 750, 1500 and MAX models. With a 20% smaller footprint than Bolt 6 XT, it is Teradek’s most compact 12G‑SDI transmitter to date.
- Bolt 7 RX is offered in 750 and 1500 models.
- Bolt 7 RX MAX adds on‑board encoding to an SD card. Paired via Ethernet with a Link AX or other Wi‑Fi router, productions can receive zero‑delay video while simultaneously sending a low‑latency feed to iPads on set through the Teradek TV app.
Each new TX and RX includes the 900MHz radio, a colour OLED with a simplified interface, optional single‑cable pairing, and updated battery plate cradles for quicker swaps. Automated RF management in PageOS and the Bolt App streamlines pairing and helps maintain reliability in challenging RF conditions.
Bolt 7 TX and RX support up to 4K60 10‑bit 422 HDR over 12G‑SDI and are fully compatible across the Bolt 4K (5GHz) and Bolt 6 (5GHz and 6GHz) ecosystems. The new 900MHz wireless data feature operates exclusively between Bolt 7 devices.
