Camera Corps Debuts CCU-5 Camera Control Unit At Broadcast Live & Video Forum
Camera Corps (exhibiting on the Polecam stand (C62)) is showing its new CCU-5 camera control unit which allows easy remote operation of many makes and models of broadcast camera including those which are not always provided with a CCU by their manufacturer.
Each of the five camera-select buttons on the 354 x 102 x 60mm controller can be programmed to control different types of camera. Each camera connects via balanced audio cable to its respective interface module which delivers power and performs control signal decoding.
A variety of interface modules are available including versions providing direct motor drives for pan and tilt heads plus smaller units with batteries and RF receivers for ultra-compact camera control over a radio link. Other available interface facilities include cue/tally light detection, remote switching for blowers, and windscreen wash/wipe. Pan, tilt zoom and focus drives are provided for various types of pan and tilt head and both Fujinon and Canon conferencing or ENG lenses. Remote camera power on/off is also available for some systems.
The control signal itself is a fully balanced dual-frequency audio sinewave which can run at 1200, 2400 or 4800 baud. Level is not critical as the interface boxes can tolerate a plus or minus 6dB variation from the basic setting. A channel selection switch on each interface sets its ID to the corresponding camera select button on the CCU panel. Baud rate and camera type are set automatically when receiving data.
"The CCU-5 was designed to support our long-established programme project management and product-rental activity," commented Camera Corps managing director, Laurie Frost. "The system has proved thoroughly reliable on a wide variety of productions including outside broadcasts and reality television programmes. We are now introducing it to the direct purchase market."
