Sennheiser Ships Spectera SKM Handheld
Sennheiser has begun shipping the Spectera SKM handheld transmitter, rounding off the core building blocks of its bidirectional Spectera wideband wireless platform.
Aimed at professional live sound, theatre, broadcast and houses of worship, the SKM brings premium handheld microphone performance into the Spectera ecosystem.
Powered by Sennheiser's WMAS wideband approach, Spectera is designed to overcome many common pain points in today's wireless workflows. The SKM pairs Sennheiser's signature sound with the ecosystem's flexibility and control, delivering ultra-low‑latency audio while enabling continuous monitoring, remote configuration and real‑time operational insight for modern productions.
All monitoring and control data travel on the same wideband RF channel as the audio, removing the need for a separate control network. The SKM maintains a continuous two‑way link with the Base Station, allowing engineers to check battery status, RF performance, audio levels, signal strength and link quality in real time, and to adjust key microphone settings such as gain and low‑cut remotely.
Available in UHF and 1.4 GHz (1G4) versions, the SKM offers latency down to 1.0 ms. Leveraging WMAS wideband technology, additional handhelds can be added as devices within the same Spectera RF channel rather than as separately coordinated narrowband frequencies. This streamlines RF planning, bolsters resilience to fading and increases confidence when operating in congested spectrum.
The SKM shares BA 70 or BA 70 2.2 rechargeable batteries with the Spectera SEK bodypack and features a robust metal housing, AES‑256 encryption and an OLED display. It is compatible with a wide selection of Sennheiser and Neumann capsules, including the all‑new Neumann KK 104 A and KK 105 A heads, enabling engineers to tailor the handheld to different voices, use cases and performance styles while maintaining the natural, detailed sound associated with Sennheiser microphones.
Key specifications include a multicarrier TDMA/TDD transmission scheme; 6 or 8 MHz channel bandwidth (country dependent) supporting up to 128 mobile devices and up to 128 audio links per RF channel; UHF operation in 470–608 MHz and 630–698 MHz, and 1G4 operation in 1350–1400 MHz and 1435–1525 MHz (country dependent). Audio frequency response is 20 Hz–20 kHz (±1 dB) in SeDAC and PCM modes. RF output power is up to 50 mW (country limited), with over six hours of run time in live mode on BA 70. Dimensions are 196 mm in length, 33.3 mm body diameter and 40 mm capsule interface, with an approximate weight of 196 g (without battery). Operating temperature is −10 °C to +50 °C, with 25–95% non‑condensing relative humidity.
Compatible capsule options include MD 9235, ME 9002/9004/9005, MM 435/445, MMD 42‑1/835‑1/845‑1/935‑1/945‑1, MME 865‑1, MMK 965‑1, and Neumann KK 204/205/104 A/105 A.
