Rohde & Schwarz Unveils MP007 Portable Tactical Direction Finder

Rohde & Schwarz has launched the MP007, a man-portable tactical direction finding (DF) system offering seamless signal detection across 9 MHz to 8 GHz, spanning HF through to contemporary mobile communications and radar bands.

The MP007 pairs a robust R&S®PR200 portable receiver housed in an impact-resistant transport case with the high-performance R&S®ADD507 DF antenna. The tool-free kit weighs around 27 kg and supports multiple deployment modes, including backpack use with a mast and adapter, as well as vehicle installation using longer RF cables and a magnetic antenna mount. An optional R&S®HE400 handheld antenna enables near-field homing.

Delivering a typical DF accuracy of approximately 2° RMS, the system features up to 40 MHz real-time bandwidth and a panorama scan rate of up to 60 GHz/s for rapid signal analysis and precise geolocation. Power comes from two hot-swappable batteries with integrated charging electronics, providing up to eight hours of dual-mode operation and allowing uninterrupted battery changes. Its modular design enhances manageability for tactical teams.

Intended uses range from spectrum awareness and EMCON to interference localisation, area and personnel protection, search and rescue, and early anomaly detection. When integrated with the Rohde & Schwarz software environment, signals can be visualised on maps, multiple nodes can be networked for automatic triangulation, alerts can be configured and task sequences automated.

Built for harsh environments, the MP007 meets MIL-STD-810H for climate and mechanical stress and MIL-STD-461G for EMC, and carries an IP43 ingress protection rating.
