swXtch.io To Introduce groundSwXtch For Audio Over IP

swXtch.io will debut groundSwXtch for Audio over IP (AoIP) at IBC2026, introducing a software application designed to transport native AoIP streams between broadcast facilities and into the cloud over standard IP networks, including the public internet.

The new application supports major AoIP formats including Ravenna, AES67 and ST 2110-30, enabling broadcasters and media organizations to move uncompressed audio without requiring dedicated codec hardware or network reconfiguration to support multicast routing.

Unlike traditional AoIP transport, which typically relies on codec pairs to compress, transport and decode audio between sites, groundSwXtch carries existing multicast AoIP streams across WAN, 5G and public internet connections through a centrally managed software overlay. The application runs on standard servers, hardware or virtual machines, allowing broadcasters to connect studios, production centres, remote facilities and data centres without modifying existing network infrastructure.

The platform also incorporates packet protection for hybrid links, including SMPTE ST 2022-7 hitless failover, while providing operators with centralized monitoring of audio flows across the network.

groundSwXtch shares its underlying architecture with swXtch.io's cloudSwXtch platform, allowing broadcasters to extend the same multicast environment from on-premises facilities into the cloud through a unified hybrid network rather than maintaining separate workflows.

The application includes integrated clock synchronization with support for PTP to maintain the timing accuracy required for live production, intercom systems and distributed audio mixing. Because audio is transported in its native format without compression or transcoding, streams remain bit-identical from source to destination.

According to the company, groundSwXtch has been validated with broadcast and professional audio partners across applications including live sports and remote event production, intercom connectivity, distributed audio mixing, entertainment venue production and radio networks linking studios, newsrooms and regional bureaux.

swXtch.io will demonstrate groundSwXtch for Audio over IP during IBC2026, taking place from 11-14 September, in meeting room 5.MR13 (Hall 5) at the RAI Amsterdam.
