DHD Audio Unveils Advances Latest Audio Production Advances
DHD audio, a leading provider of broadcast-quality audio production, post-production, and routing equipment, has reported a highly successful 2025 marked by significant additions and innovations to its product range.
Among the key developments introduced during the year was the RM1 Pro 'broadcast from anywhere' system, which builds upon the established RM1 model. "Our design aim with the established RM1 was to bridge the gap between podcast and broadcast," comments Marc Hermann, managing director.
The new RM1 Pro version introduces extra capabilities for professional broadcasters who are working remotely, including tighter connectivity with DHD infrastructure located at their host broadcasting centre. Core control networking allows the exchange of logic commands with other DHD devices for talkback or on-air signalling. Users also gain access to individual DHD Toolbox configurations plus the ability to create an RM1 Pro user interface tailored to their workflow, including loudness metering functionality. RM1 Pro behaves like a standard DHD Series 52 core device so additional software or features such as remote faders can be licensed if or when required. The remote faders option, for example, allows RM1 Pro channels to be controlled from another DHD system or vice versa."
Also new, DHD's Routing Web App is compatible with all DHD IP cores (standard XC3, high-capacity XD3 and XS3) and all DHD mixers able to run version 10.4 firmware. DHD IP cores provide the processing power needed for each control console in the company's product range. These currently comprise the ultra-configurable RX2, the compact price-optimised SX2, ultra-compact desktop DX2, and multitouch tabletop TX2.
"Routing in many studios is an under-the-hood facility which is largely taken for granted until it needs adjustment or major reconfiguration," said Christoph Gottert, DHD's international sales manager. "The DHD Routing Web App makes the entire process of assigning and managing incoming sources and output ports easy to view and control."
Scheduled for release together with firmware version 10.4 in early 2026, the Routing Web App will expand to six the range of DHD Web Apps which currently embraces the Assist App, Labels App, Snapshot App, System App and Views App. Each can be activated on a licence basis.
Firmware 10.4 adds a range of refinements which expand the operational versatility and third-party product compatibility of DHD equipment.
Also introduced was a new version of the DHD Headphone Box. Connecting via a standard patch cable to one of the headphone ports, this accepts 6.3 or 3.5 mm jacks and has a potentiometer to control the headphone level, plus a GPI to accommodate, for example, a cough-mute button.
Demonstrated ahead of its anticipated Q1 2026 introduction, DHD's AI-based voice enhancement allows the removal of noise and distortion in live broadcast voice presentations. Developed in cooperation with ai|acoustics, this will be available as an integral element of the DHD XD3 IP core for use with any DHD audio mixing desk. Potential applications include enhancing the audibility of a commentator in a noisy sports stadium or a reporter presenting a live bulletin against a background of city-centre motor traffic. The process can be applied in post-production as well as for live applications, allowing programme editors or newsroom staff to work with content that might previously have been unusable.
Broadcast-related projects completed during the year included a new multi-studio facility with DHD mixers in Amsterdam for Mediahuis Radio. The mixers were supplied by Media Utilities, a long-established audio systems integrator based at Almere. "Time pressure was a significant challenge so we chose to make the five radio studios technically identical with state-of-the-art technology including extensive support for multimedia," said Tim Blankman, Mediahuis Radio technical manager. "Each of the three production studios has a DHD DX2 mixer that can be used in conjunction with our vocal booths. The vocal booths are also equipped with a DX2 mixer for multifunctional use, allowing programme makers to contribute live or recorded content to the production studios. The DHD mixers are all equipped with lightweight manual faders that enable soft fader starts for fast presentations, combined with the reliability and versatility of digital control. The reactions from our jocks have been very enthusiastic."
Media Prima, Malaysia's largest media and entertainment conglomerate, chose DHD SX2 audio production mixers for integration into new broadcast studios on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. The project was completed in partnership with VME Broadcast and Stagetec Asia. It included the supply, installation and commissioning of complete audio systems for Media Prima's TV3 and 8TV television channels. "The project was inspired by the concept of 'serumah', or one house, bringing multiple platforms under one roof," said Mohamad Rezwan Khalil Azmi, Media Prima CTO. "Integration of these systems has significantly improved workflow efficiency and our teams are now better equipped for seamless coordination across departments." As part of the transition, Stagetec Asia integrated DHD SX2 modular broadcast consoles into the TV3 and 8TV production control suites.
Radio Azzurra FM, northwest Italy, invested in a DHD SX2 audio routing and mixing console for integration into its studio headquarters. The installation formed a central element of a restructuring project by Milan-based BVMedia. "Radio Azzurra selected us to perform the total digitisation and optimisation of their internal technical resources," said Roberto Zeccara, BV Media senior project manager. "We recommended DHD's SX2 as the product of excellence for audio management, appreciated for its versatility and speed of setup. Like all DHD mixers, the SX2 is very user-friendly which removes the burden of carrying out time-consuming training. Customisation of the keys plus the versatility of the TFT touchscreens allows presenters to go on air independently and confidently without needing technical support."
Radio Marca in Spain chose DHD audio mixers and routing as the heart of recently expanded production facilities at its Madrid headquarters. Supervised by Agrupación de Servicios y Productos de Audio (ASPA), the project encompassed planning and equipping a main radio studio, two secondary studios, three audio production booths and the master control room. The system recommended and installed by ASPA's project management team includes six DHD digital mixing consoles plus a complete DHD routing matrix. RX2 mixers with 18 physical faders have been integrated into the main and secondary studios plus DX2 consoles with four physical faders in the audio production booths. Both models allow layered operation by extending the number of channels of each console. The new MCR is equipped with a complete routing system centred on a DHD XD3 core digital signal processor.
Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak, the central regional division of Malaysia's state broadcast network, specified DHD audio mixing consoles and digital signal processing cores in a major upgrade to its studios in Kuching. System design, installation and commissioning were coordinated by Stagetec Asia. A key part of the project was the integration of six DHD SX2 consoles plus primary and auxiliary XC2 cores. "RTM's trust and satisfaction in its partnership with Stagetec Asia are grounded in a robust collaboration initiated in 2005, a bond further highlighted by the recent undertaking of an extensive broadcast project at Angkasapuri Kota Media," adds Advon Tan, Stagec Asia managing director. "Our track record in executing complex audio infrastructure projects was instrumental in securing this project which equips RTM Sarawak for highly efficient broadcast production, combining operational versatility with high signal quality."
Risaralda FM Tu Radio chose a 10-channel SX2 mixer with an XC3 core for integration into its studio headquarters in the Pereira, capital city of Risaralda, western Colombia. The project forms part of ongoing upgrades to the state-owned broadcasting channel, including new live transmission and recording capabilities. It was negotiated and completed by Bogota-based broadcast systems specialist ASPA ANDINA. "The compactness of the DHD SX2 console is ideal for radio activities," comments Guillermo Andrés Rodas Suárez, Risaralda 100.2 FM Tu Radio announcer. "The DHD system has facilitated our transition to digital, avoiding losses and electrical interference to which our analog equipment was subject." "The DHD system has captivated every announcer and operator who has used it, increasing the pleasure they get from working at our station," summarises Diana Vega, Risaralda 100.2 FM station director.
SRR, the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, commissioned a new state-of-the-art radio production and broadcast facility centred on a DHD RX2 and TX2 console system delivered and integrated by DHD's Romanian partner RomTek Electronics. The newly equipped studios are designed to support SRR's production, broadcast and podcast operations, advancing the technical infrastructure at the network's Bucharest headquarters with modular IP-based audio architecture and a seamlessly integrated acoustic design. "This project marks a major leap forward in Romania's public broadcasting infrastructure," comments Ion Ungureanu, SRR engineering lead. "The combination of DHD's modular IP architecture and RomTek's design knowhow gives us immediate capability and long-term flexibility. We can shift between live programmes, multitrack production, and podcast workflows, with no change in the central audio path."
Taiwan state broadcaster TBS (Taipei Broadcasting Station) completed a modernisation project at its headquarters in Taipei City. The upgrade was coordinated by Taiwan-based systems integrator ADE in collaboration with Tiyu and Stagetec Asia. "The project combined seamless integration of advanced digital audio technology with the need to ensure zero downtime for TBS's 24-hour operations," comments Yap Wei Keong, Stagetec Asia senior project manager. "DHD SX2 online air mixing has been provided for each of the eight radio studios. We also integrated a TX2 in the MCR where its touch-driven interface simplifies complex operations and enhances transitions between programmes. The system includes an automated time scheduler which handles signal routing in sync with the TBS broadcast schedule, reducing the need for manual intervention. Meticulous planning ensured uninterrupted transmission throughout the project."
Among highlight projects in the educational sector, Han Chiang University College of Communication in Penang, Malaysia, chose a DHD DX2 audio production system for its media training studio. The project was implemented in cooperation with Stagetec Asia from its base in Cyberjaya, Selangor. "This upgrade is aimed at ensuring Han Chiang University College of Communications remains at the forefront of media and communication education, preparing its students for careers in the broadcast and wider field of electronic arts," comments Yap Wei Keong, Senior Project Manager at Stagetec Asia. "The DX2 system we recommended and duly integrated fits the university's needs perfectly. The system is really easy to use, especially for students who are just starting to learn broadcasting."
Peres Academy selected a DHD SX2 audio mixer as the centrepiece of a new audio and video media production facility at Rehovot near Tel Aviv. The project was supervised by Jerusalem-based system integrator Broadcast Design Ltd. "Peres Academy is one of Israel's largest centres of learning," comments Micha Blum, founder and CEO of Broadcast Design. "The academy asked us to design and equip a single-operator control room plus a studio for a new innovation hub. We responded with a system that is versatile and easy to use, delivering high quality sound and video. DHD's SX2 with integral Dante IP audio connectivity was chosen for its operational versatility, robust build quality and space efficiency. The system works well and is very operator friendly. Installation, testing and customer familiarisation were completed in just two days. We are always fast."
