Lambda Films Delivers Nations Championship Launch Film
London-based video production company Lambda Films has delivered a global launch film for the inaugural Nations Championship after completing the project from commission to final master in just 14 days.
The campaign was created to introduce rugby’s newest international competition and focuses on the shared experiences of supporters across the 12 competing nations. Rather than concentrating solely on match action, the film highlights the rituals and moments of anticipation that take place before kick-off, connecting fans across different countries and time zones.
Lambda Films worked closely with the Nations Championship team from the early development stages, helping shape the original concept into a cinematic story built around a mysterious command centre. The creative approach was designed to provide a central visual theme while reflecting the international scale of the tournament.
The production involved 21 actors, 15 locations and a bespoke command centre set constructed at RAF Bentwaters. To meet the tight delivery schedule, Lambda Films used an integrated production workflow, with post-production taking place alongside filming from the first day of the shoot.
Footage was reviewed and assembled during production, allowing the team to assess sequences in real time, identify any required pickups before locations were closed and refine the film as shooting progressed.
Director Alex Morris said: "We weren't interested in changing the concept for the sake of it. Every creative decision had to make the story stronger. The command centre became the thread that connected the film and gave the campaign its own cinematic identity."
The film uses two contrasting visual styles to separate the supporter-focused sequences from the command centre scenes. Handheld camerawork, vintage Cooke Speed Panchro lenses and naturalistic lighting were used to create an intimate and authentic feel for the fan moments, while the command centre was filmed with a more controlled style featuring precise compositions and choreographed camera movement.
Lambda Films said the production approach allowed the team to deliver a cinematic campaign within a compressed timeframe while maintaining the creative ambition of the project.
