Martin Audio Delivers High-Definition Sound

Noorderkerkzaal, the performing arts venue in Sneek, the Netherlands, has installed a permanent Martin Audio sound system tailored to the hall's acoustical demands and varied programme.

Set within the historic Reformed Church of Sneek, built in 1881, the space transitioned from serving its congregation until 2001 to a brief period as apartments, before an extensive renovation led to its reopening as an events venue in 2010.

Now a key part of the Sneek Cultural Quarter, the 200-capacity room hosts concerts, theatre and community events, requiring excellent speech intelligibility, musicality and even coverage across the audience area.

To achieve this, the venue opted for a solution that combines high output with refined sound quality. On the advice of Martijn de Jong from Martin Audio’s Dutch distributor, Ampco Flashlight Sales, the theatre selected a FlexPoint loudspeaker system, complemented by SXC cardioid subwoofers and the latest iKON amplification with Dante networking.

Designed for high-performance fixed installations where clarity and predictable coverage are critical, the FlexPoint system delivers controlled dispersion for consistent results and flexibility to suit different room layouts.

The core setup comprises three FP12 12-inch cabinets in a left/centre/right configuration, supported by three FP8 8-inch units as frontfills. Low frequencies are handled by two SXC115 cardioid subwoofers, whose pattern control mitigates bass build-up on stage and preserves clarity.

Power is provided by Dante-enabled iKON IK41 and IK42 amplifiers, offering efficient multi-channel drive, straightforward integration and modern networked audio routing.
