HbbTV Releases 2026‑1 Test Suite

The HbbTV Association has released version 2026‑1 of the HbbTV Conformance Test Suite, the industry’s primary tool for validating compliance of devices and services with HbbTV specifications.

The update enhances the suite's breadth, quality and functionality to reflect evolving interactive TV requirements, supporting manufacturers, broadcasters and platform operators seeking consistent, standards-based delivery.

Version 2026‑1 comprises 3,439 test cases, of which 2,907 are approved. It introduces 64 newly approved tests to verify the latest expected device features and behaviours.

More than 180 existing test cases have been refined to better mirror real‑world scenarios and common implementation patterns seen across the market.

A focal point of the release is new approved coverage for the CTA WAVE project’s Media Source Extensions (MSE) API and for Widevine DRM, underscoring the growing importance of secure, standards-aligned media delivery. Tests previously available only in the UK have also been incorporated, widening applicability and reducing reliance on region-specific packs.

"HbbTV's ongoing investment in expanding and refining the Test Suite is essential to ensuring the reliability, interoperability and quality of HbbTV-compliant devices and services worldwide," said Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association. "With Test Suite v2026-1, we continue to strengthen the foundations for secure, consistent and future-proof TV experiences across all markets."

The HbbTV Test Suite enables TV set and set‑top box makers to verify conformance with current HbbTV specifications. For broadcasters and platform operators, it supports greater device consistency while helping lower implementation and maintenance costs.
