Purple Group Invests In Martin Audio WPC And WPL Arrays
Purple Group, a leading production company in the Netherlands, has expanded its inventory with a substantial purchase of Martin Audio's WPC and WPL Wavefront Precision line array systems, supplied by Dutch distributor Ampco Flashlight Sales.
The move builds on more than three decades of expertise across lighting, sound, video and rigging, and follows the company’s longstanding use of Martin Audio legacy systems including W8LC, W8LM and Longbow, making the step to the latest Wavefront Precision technology a logical progression.
Day-to-day operation of the systems at Purple Group is overseen by Guus Hoekstra and Robert de Loey. "I've enjoyed working with Martin Audio for years," commented de Loey. "The brand has always proven to be reliable, delivering a sonic signature that immediately appeals to both artists and engineers."
Working with Ampco Flashlight Sales, Purple Group initially selected the WPC as a flexible rental workhorse. The 2 x 10", medium-format, three-way bi-amped array is designed for high performance, consistency and strong projection, aligning with the company’s broad event portfolio.
The first tranche comprised 24 WPC elements with 24 SX218 dual-18” subwoofers, supported by TORUS T1215 constant curvature loudspeakers deployed as front fills, all powered by iKON multi-channel amplifiers.
The WPC rig proved its capabilities immediately, delivering high-fidelity sound, even coverage and ample headroom in challenging outdoor settings. It was rolled out at Zwarte Cross in Lichtenvoorde – billed as the world’s largest motocross and music festival, drawing 220,000 visitors – and at the Nirwana Tuinfeest rock festival. Acts including Kensington and Triggerfinger performed on the system, with the technical team reporting across-the-board praise for its performance.
Following the strong results and positive client feedback, Purple Group quickly scaled up with a second major purchase: 24 WPL large-format 2 x 12" elements and 24 SXH218 high-output subwoofers. "With this expansion, Purple Group now commands two powerful, flexible, and future-proof systems," noted Martijn de Jong at Ampco Flashlight Sales.
Reflecting on the strategic value of the acquisitions, Purple Group's Guus Hoekstra said: "The combination of Martin Audio's WPC and WPL gives us the flexibility to serve a wide variety of shows, from festivals to indoor events. This makes it a valuable investment, both now and in the future."
