PSI Audio Unveils A226-MAIN APA-700 Main Monitor

Swiss studio monitor specialist PSI Audio has introduced a new variation of its flagship A226-MAIN active analogue monitor.

The A226-MAIN APA-700 retains the speaker’s sophisticated driver configuration and proprietary technology while relocating its amplification to a separate Analogue Power Amplifier (APA) unit.

Designed for professional studios, the APA-700 can be positioned up to five meters away from the speaker, providing easy access to controls for wall-embedded or soffit-mounted monitors. The 3U, 19-inch rack-compatible amplifier features rotary knobs for roll-off and level adjustment, as well as a dedicated standby button, allowing engineers to make precise tweaks without reaching the speakers themselves.

"The APA-700 takes the electronics from the A226-MAIN and turns them into a remote amplifier," PSI Audio said. "The 3U 19-inch-rack-compatible unit allows for up to five meters of distance between speaker and electronics through a proprietary connection, which makes it perfect for controlling wall-embedded A226-MAIN in professional studios. The APA-700 provides rotary knobs for roll-off and level. The device can also be activated or deactivated through a dedicated standby button."

While the amplification is externalised, the speaker itself remains unchanged, delivering the high-fidelity sound for which PSI Audio is renowned. Its aluminium coil dome tweeter ensures precise high-frequency reproduction, complemented by the EXD midrange driver and two 10-inch woofers with double flow guide bass reflex. Together, they provide accurate transient response and a clean, powerful low end.

As a flagship model, the A226-MAIN incorporates PSI Audio's proprietary technologies including Compensated Phase Response (CPR) for perfectly aligned audio and Adaptive Output Impedance (AOI) to optimize transients. The APA-700's all-analogue amplification supports high SPL output with minimal distortion, maintaining the system’s accuracy even in demanding listening environments.
