Channel 4 Dominates At The 2025 Press Gazette British Journalism Awards

Channel 4 dominated the 2025 Press Gazette British Journalism Awards, taking home multiple top honours, including News Provider of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Winning more awards than any other broadcaster or news outlet, Channel 4's success highlights its role as a leader in public interest journalism. Across six awards, judges praised its work for "holding power to account", "serving the public interest", and demonstrating "courage, rigour, and global impact".

The evening's standout award, News Provider of the Year, went to Channel 4 News (ITN) for its fearless reporting on both domestic and international stories. Highlights included the groundbreaking investigation into the Church of England, early coverage from inside Syria, and the Emmy-winning special, This is Gaza.

Cathy Newman, presenter and investigations editor for C4 News, was named Journalist of the Year for her reporting on abuse within the Church of England, which included a landmark interview with the Archbishop of Canterbury and led to the first forced resignation of an Archbishop in UK history. Newman also won Interviewer of the Year, with judges noting her "flawless execution" and a "history-making gotcha moment" in her interview with Justin Welby.

Channel 4's commitment to covering the war in Gaza was also recognised. Gaza: Doctors Under Attack (Basement Films), directed by Yousef Hammash, won the Foreign Affairs Journalism award for its powerful eyewitness account of attacks on medical facilities and healthcare workers. The film was also Highly Commended for Investigation of the Year.

C4 News' This is Gaza, a 50-minute special featuring Palestinian filmmaker Yousef Hammash, formed the basis for the News Provider of the Year win, following his Emmy award-winning coverage inside Gaza.

Channel 4 Dispatches' The King, The Prince and Their Secret Millions won the top Business, Finance and Economics award alongside The Sunday Times and The Mirror, for its investigation into complex financial dealings at the highest levels of British public life. Judges praised it as "a high impact story which the team really nailed with thorough reporting".

Groomed: A National Scandal (Candour TV) won the Crime and Legal Journalism award, exposing systematic failings in the police and giving voice to five women who survived sexual abuse at the hands of grooming gangs over 20 years.

The broadcaster's commitment to innovation and emerging journalists was also highlighted. Cherise Hamilton-Stephenson of C4 News was nominated for New Journalist of the Year for her undercover investigation into the dangerous practice of skin whitening drips, while the FactCheck team's NurseCheck data project was nominated for Innovation of the Year.

The awards cement Channel 4's reputation for fearless, socially impactful journalism and its dedication to both international reporting and nurturing new talent.
