BBC World Service To Launch New Asia-Pacific Podcast

The BBC World Service is launching a new visualised podcast focused on delivering in-depth analysis and expert insight on stories from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Titled Asia Specific, the podcast will launch on 19 November and will provide Asian perspectives on major global news, original reporting, and analysis of political, social, and economic trends shaping the region.

Airing twice weekly, the podcast will be presented from the BBC’s Singapore bureau, with contributions from correspondents and reporters across the BBC’s newsgathering and language service teams. Regular contributors include the BBC’s South East Asia and China correspondents.

The production team is led by Bill Birtles, who previously reported for ABC in China and Indonesia, alongside Derek Cai, a journalist and producer with experience at the BBC, The Wall Street Journal, and The Straits Times, and Rachel Lee from the BBC’s Korean Service.

Episodes will be released on YouTube first, followed by availability on BBC Sounds in the UK, and internationally via BBC.com, the BBC app, and major podcast platforms. The podcast aims to provide audiences with trusted, original reporting and analysis on the stories that matter across Asia and the wider world.
