iWedia Launches Next Generation Android TV STB

iWedia has launched of NTT DOCOMO's 4th generation Android TV set-top box.

Built to deliver Ultra HD visuals and a wide range of interactive and hybrid features, the new device enhances DOCOMO’s Hikari TV service and reflects the operator's commitment to providing subscribers with the best of broadcast and streaming in one platform.

The Android TV-powered box is built on state-of-the-art hardware and customized software to maximize performance and user experience. iWedia’s middleware – tailored to NTT DOCOMO’s requirements – ensures full compliance with Japanese broadcast standards (ARIB), while also supporting the flexibility of OTT streaming. As a result, NTT DOCOMO’s Hikari TV service can seamlessly deliver both traditional broadcast channels and on-demand content through a single device.

iWedia provided end-to-end integration and customization services for the project, extending the product’s capability with features such as:

Ultra HD 4K Video – Superior live and on-demand quality enabled by iWedia's optimised middleware integration.
Advanced PVR Features – Auto-chaptering and smart recording, developed and implemented by iWedia.
Interactive Services (BML) – Full ARIB-compliant interactivity, supported through iWedia’s middleware customization and certification.
Future-Proof Android Platform – Middleware ported by iWedia to Synaptics hardware under Android TV 12, upgradeable to 14 with HEVC support.
Seamless Service Integration – Hikari TV application combined with CAS and BML modules for a unified user experience.
Certified & Compliant – Validation and certification support from iWedia ensured compliance with Google, terrestrial, and satellite broadcast standards.
These efforts ensured the STB met both international Android TV standards and Japanese market compliance.
