iWedia Optimises Android TV Platform
iWedia has delivered a premium TeleOS user experience for Reliance Jio on low-memory hardware, highlighting the potential for software optimisation to extend the life of connected TV devices without costly hardware upgrades.
Connected TV software provider iWedia has announced a major milestone in Android platform optimisation, saying it has successfully delivered a premium TeleOS user experience for Reliance Jio on hardware with limited memory capacity.
The achievement comes as TV operators face growing pressure to balance increasingly sophisticated software and user experiences with the cost of device hardware. As platforms add richer interfaces, more applications and additional system services, memory requirements continue to increase — potentially putting older deployed hardware under pressure.
According to iWedia, advanced Android memory optimisation can significantly reduce a platform's RAM requirements while maintaining the features and responsiveness expected of a modern smart TV environment.
The company's approach focuses on optimising the Android software stack rather than simply increasing hardware memory or replacing devices. It combines detailed memory profiling with analysis of runtime components, graphics memory optimisation, memory-management tuning, service architecture improvements and application-level changes.
The aim is to identify where memory is being consumed, establish which components are essential to the user experience and reduce unnecessary usage without compromising platform stability, compliance or functionality.
iWedia said its platform-wide methodology can deliver memory reductions of 1GB or more, depending on the configuration, while retaining advanced operator services and applications.
For operators managing large device fleets, the potential benefits extend beyond reducing hardware costs. More efficient software can help maintain the performance of devices already deployed in customers' homes, potentially extending their operational lifespan and reducing the need for accelerated hardware replacement.
The company said the work with Reliance Jio also demonstrates how software innovation can help operators maximise the value of existing hardware while creating a roadmap for future device generations.
