Carousel Digital Signage Software Expands Compatibility To Samsung Tizen Displays

Carousel Digital Signage has announced media player support for Samsung commercial displays built on the Samsung Smart Signage Platform (SSSP) with the Tizen operating system.

This means AV integrators and IT teams can deploy digital signage on the millions of Samsung commercial TVs already in use – from enterprise lobbies to school classrooms – without adding external players.

Samsung is the global leader in professional displays, with a 33% market share and over 2 million signage units sold in 2023. North America accounts for approximately one-third of the world's signage market. By leveraging Samsung's embedded SoC (System on Chip) platform, Carousel now extends its reach to this vast installed base of screens, enabling customers to "keep [their] audience informed and connected" on existing Samsung panels.

SSSP displays include built‑in SoC hardware that can run apps like Carousel Cloud Player directly on the screen. In other words, the TV itself contains a media player – no separate PC or box is required. As Samsung has noted, these SoC-equipped signage panels "can now be used as digital signage media players, negating the need for external players". That, in turn, lowers the cost and complexity of deployments. Integrators mount the display and power it on rather than wiring up an external computer. Carousel's app runs natively on the Samsung Tizen OS, so any supported display becomes a Carousel endpoint capable of playing content from the cloud.

Carousel Cloud Player can be installed on Samsung Tizen displays using standard methods, including Samsung’s Tizen Business Manager for large rollouts. Tizen Business Manager (introduced for devices from 2022 onward) is a free Samsung portal that allows administrators to register fleets of screens and remotely push apps and configurations. Using this portal, integrators can upload the Carousel app to many displays at once. After the app is deployed, users launch it on each TV and enter an activation code in the Carousel Cloud platform to link that display to its content.

Removing external players and cables cuts hardware costs and installation time. Installs are faster, and ongoing maintenance is easier since everything is managed through software. Schools and businesses avoid buying extra media players or licensing third‑party systems, and troubleshooting is reduced – often, a simple power cycle is enough to reboot a screen. And because SoC displays typically draw less power than a PC, the setup is more energy-efficient. Together, these factors result in a lower total cost of ownership for customers deploying digital signage with Carousel on Samsung screens.
