Slate Digital Launches ML-1A Microphone

Slate Digital has unveiled the next generation of its microphone modelling ecosystem with the launch of the new ML-1A microphone, the Virtual Microphone System plugin, and the Radio France Signature mic pack with 10 exclusive vintage models.
The ML-1A builds upon its predecessor with a sleeker profile and a redesigned grille, plus lower self-noise (8 dB) and an integrated pad switch offering an extra 10 dB or 20 dB of headroom for capturing high-SPL sources with pristine clarity. With the -20 dB pad engaged, the microphone can handle up to 145 dB SPL, making it perfect for everything from delicate vocals to aggressive drum tracking.
The new Virtual Microphone System (VMS) plugin now allows users to load a new mic model on any track like a standard processing plugin, streamlining the recording workflow for new and experienced users alike. This VMS plugin update also introduces several powerful new features:
Mic Blending – Seamlessly morph between two mic models, interpolating frequency response, saturation, and non-linearities for unique tonal possibilities.
Mono-to-Stereo Widener – Add width to recordings without introducing phase issues in mono playback.
Proximity Slider – Authentically reproduce the natural bass boost that results from close-mic'ing with precise control.
Slate Digital has also announced the Radio France Signature mic expansion pack, introducing 10 brand new mic models to the Virtual Microphone System. For the R&D team in Grenoble, France, partnering with such an iconic institution made perfect sense. From pioneering the iconic ORTF stereo technique to embracing cutting-edge formats like binaural audio, Radio France has long been at the forefront of sound innovation.
With over 5000 microphones in regular rotation from more than 300 iconic manufacturers, the studios of Radio France are used to capture everything from breaking news to live orchestras, whether in-studio or out in the world. From an 'unbreakable' mic that could be regularly found in the hands of field reporters to the largest ribbon microphone ever made, the Radio France Signature mic pack brings a dose of that legendary locker to your personal collection.
