Dolby showcases audio solutions at NAB 2004

Dolby Laboratories will showcase its latest audio solutions for HDTV and DTV terrestrial, cable, and satellite services at NAB 2004, booth #SU10443.
Most notably, Dolby will debut its new LM100 Loudness Meter software remote application, introduce a new enhanced version of Dolby Digital for future broadcast systems, showcase Dolby Pro Logic II for stereo infrastructures and demonstrate Dolby Digital 5.1 content for cable, satellite, and terrestrial broadcasting.
The new LM100 software remote application will assist postproduction, television broadcast, cable systems, and satellite providers with advanced loudness measurement, logging features, and enhanced error reporting, enabling them to address subjective loudness issues. Applications include network QC, postproduction, DVD authoring, broadcast on-air monitoring/logging, video-on-demand (VOD) encoding, and satellite turnaround facilities.
The software's features enable users to continuously log short- and long-term speech loudness values in real time, while storing the loudness history data for later analysis. In addition, the LM100 remote application also includes an event log that allows the user to continuously monitor/log several different types of input status, alarm, and error conditions. These include Dolby Digital (AC-3) cyclic redundancy code (CRC) errors, Dolby E CRC errors, loudness above and below threshold, clipping, input loss, and audio metadata.
For cable head-end applications, the LM100 remote application allows users to control both the LM100-NTSC's tuner module and digital cable set-top box tuners for ‘hands off’ analysis and logging for every channel on their cable system (via a third-party translator, sold separately). This gives cable personnel the ability to continuously and objectively evaluate how consistent loudness levels are from channel to channel within their services.
The Dolby LM100 software remote application will be packaged with both the LM100-LTC and LM100-NTSC starting in the second quarter of 2004.
