BBC Cymru Wales Appoints Head Of Welsh Language Services

BBC Cymru Wales has appointed Dafydd Meredydd to the role of Head of Welsh Language Services.

Dafydd will be Editor of BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio Cymru 2 as well as oversee the BBC’s Welsh language online provision BBC Cymru Fyw.

Dafydd joined BBC Radio Cymru in 1992 as a researcher. He’s held various positions at the radio station including presenter on Radio Cymru and Radio Cymru 2, producer and senior producer. He has been an Acting Content Editor for Radio Cymru since April, and will succeed Rhuanedd Richards’ as head of our Welsh Language Radio and Online services following her appointment as BBC Cymru Wales’s Director of Content and Services.

Originally from Llanrug, Dafydd lives in Cardiff with his family.

Dafydd Meredydd said: "From listening to Radio Cymru in my parents’ kitchen in the 70s at the end of the last century to be given the privilege to work as a presenter and alongside the station’s production teams for a quarter of a century and more, Radio Cymru has been the soundtrack to my life and is very close to my heart. This opportunity to lead the station, along with Radio Cymru 2 and work with the online team at Cymru Fyw is exceptionally exciting.

"Over this past challenging year and a half we’ve seen the importance of BBC Wales’ Welsh language services to the audience, as they turned to us for information, company and comfort. The next few years will be an opportunity not only to thank our audience for their fantastic loyalty by providing the best service possible but also by innovating and reaching out to new audiences across Wales."
