Mill complete work on ‘Sea of Souls’

Mill TV contributed to three out of six episodes of BBC Scotland’s ‘Sea of Souls, the primetime drama concerning Glasgow University’s paranormal investigations unit, otherwise know as ‘Psycorps’.
“The script for Sea Of Souls was incredibly ambitious”, said producer Phil Collinson. “Over a hundred scenes featuring one actress playing twin sisters. The people at The Mill guided us through the enormously tricky special effects sequences and created a truly memorable final product which exceeded all our expectations.”
Mill TV’s main challenge was to create identical twins from a single actress, Siobhan Redmond. The twins appear simultaneously in many shots, so the team relied on extensive compositing. In order to maintain the integrity of the lighting, greenscreen was ruled-out. Instead, the team used difference matting complimented by rotascoping on more intricate shots, for example – when the twin’s hands intertwine. As a result of the difference matting route, effects shots required a lock-off camera so Mill TV added digital panning to make these shots look more dynamic.
