Irish Studio Becomes Home To New Syfy Series

News Image
A film studio in Limerick, Ireland, is to welcome a new SyFy series to its base.

Nightflyers is based on George R.R. Martin's novella of the same name and it is understood production will begin on the show at Troy Studios in Limerick within the next few weeks. Work is expected to continue until the summer.

The series is moving forward with the support of the Government of Ireland, through the Minister for Culture, Heritage and Gaeltacht and the Irish Film Board.

Nightflyers follows eight maverick scientists and a telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of the solar system aboard The Nightflyer – a ship with a small tight-knit crew and a reclusive captain – in the hope of making contact with alien life. However, when terrifying and violent events start to take place they start to question each other, and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.

The series will be produced by Universal Cable Productions. Netflix will co-produce and have first-run rights to the series outside of the US.
