QUARTZ ROUTER INSTALLED IN BBC TELEVISION CENTRE

A Quartz Q6400 port router, Q32 digital video routers and Q16 digital audio routers have been installed at the BBC's Stage V post-production area in the non-linear village, Television Centre, London.
The routers were chosen as part of a refurbishment contract which adds 12 new edit suites to Stage V.
Quartz innovative Q6400-PR provides port-to-port data routing for up to 64 devices and supports both RS-422 and RS-232 signals. Any route can be established between any of the 64 ports, so a maximum of 32 pairs of machines can be connected at one time.
Traditional router designs impose directional limitations when routing controlling and controlled devices. The Q6400-PR incorporates an RS-422 interface giving each of the suites access to shared apparatus area equipment, including a pool of video tape recorders. At the heart of the installation is a Quartz Q32 SDI router, configured as a 24 x 24 matrix with two Q16 balanced 32 x 32 digital audio routers.
Systems integrators ATG Broadcast installed eight of the edit suites last year and the final four were completed in October. ATG Broadcast's Director of Engineering Graham Buchanan chose the Quartz port router for its reliability and cost effectiveness.
The Quartz equipment is controlled from a BBC BNCS interface allowing multiple routes to be established at the touch of a screen. (CD)
