IDX Unveils Its New Powerlink Batteries

News Image
At IBC 2016, IDX literally whetted the appetite for its new Powerlink batteries. Suspended within a bubble tube, the evolution of the Powerlink feature was shown from 2000 to 2017.

Powerlink is an IDX invention that allows users to double up on available capacity; stacking a second battery at the rear of a camera or other piece of equipment. NAB 2017 sees the grand unveiling of this concept in two new products, one model sub 100Wh and one sub 160Wh.

On both will be the new IDX, D-Tap Advanced socket. This is an innovation from IDX which features on their latest DUO Compact battery models. As well as conventional DC output to power ancillaries, it takes up to a 2 Amp charge from the new VL-DT1 charger. This charger, although compact and light, monitors the cell status and controls charge accordingly to extend battery life and performance.

Users of smaller equipment will not be neglected with existing battery solutions for JVC and Panasonic joined by products shipping in the summer which will work on the Sony L and BPU battery mounts. The BPU form factor batteries have the benefit of USB power out as well as the advanced D-Tap first seen on the DUO Compact batteries.

The L series being lower voltage have the X-Tap DC output connector and again have USB power out.

A prototype X-Tap charger will be shown capable of charging a number of the smaller batteries in the IDX range.
