BBC Two To Help 'Choose The Right Puppy For You'

News Image
BBC Two has commissioned a new series, Choose The Right Puppy For You (working title).

The show, which will be presented by Kate Humble and feature dog trainer and behaviourist Louise Glazebrook, is a follow up to BBC Two's 'Six Puppies And Us' series.

Choose The Right Puppy For You will help viewers when it comes to making the important decision of which dog they should get, and will include advice from the various canine experts in the UK.

The series will follow a number of households as they discover everything they need to know about different breeds of dog, including which lifestyles and domestic environments they are best suited to, and how to care for them. The households might already have what they think is their perfect dog in mind – but are they right?

Over the course of the two episodes, they will be challenged as they experience all aspects of dog ownership, before bringing their chosen puppy or dog home.

The series will also reveal the science behind breed differences, and how, today, we have a better understanding about how to help dogs integrate into modern life.

Six Puppies And Us was one of the most successful factual series on BBC Two this year, with each episode gaining an audience of more than three million viewers.

Commissioning Editor Craig Hunter says: "Six Puppies And Us was a standout series for BBC Two. This new project will build on all the ingredients of the first series – brilliant stories, great characters and fascinating specialist factual content – and at its heart is a really important subject."

Executive Producer Catherine Welton says: "We're delighted to be building on the success of Six Puppies And Us with another entertaining and informative series that will offer the definitive guide to choosing the right dog for you and your family."

Choosing The Right Puppy For You has been commissioned by Kim Shillinglaw, Controller of BBC Two and Four, and Tom McDonald, Head of Commissioning Natural History and Specialist Factual Formats.

The 2x60' series will be made by RDF Television West, a Zodiak Media company.

The commissioning editor is Craig Hunter.

The series will be distributed internationally by Zodiak Rights.
