Lighting confirmed as Five's Chief Executive

UK terrestrial television broadcaster Five has confirmed that Jane Lighting has been appointed as the channel's new Chief Executive.
Lighting (46), currently Chief Executive of pay-TV business Flextech, whose portfolio includes the LivingTV and Bravo channels, will take up her post in April.
She joined Flextech in 1999 as Managing Director of Broadcast and TV, following the acquisition of the distribution business Minotaur International, which she formed in 1995. With more than 20 years experience in the television industry, Lighting will be tasked to build on the success of the channel, which has a target of 10% audience share but has yet to pass 6.5%, and increase the share of TV advertising revenues beyond 7.5%.
Commenting on her appointment, Lighting said: “I am excited to be joining Five at this pivotal point in its development. Dawn [Airey], Nick Milligan and the team managed one of the most successful launches in terrestrial TV history and have built a solid platform for future growth. My job will be to ensure that we keep moving to the next level and beyond as the competition grows.”
In a joint statement from the channel, Five’s Chairman Remy Sautter and COO Malcolm Wall, of United Business Media and a Director of Five, said: “Jane Lighting joins Five with an enviable record of success in the TV business and a proven ability to build revenue growth. We are delighted to welcome her to Five as a worthy successor to Dawn Airey, and we look forward to the next exciting stage of Five’s continuing success.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of Nick Milligan, who has done a fantastic job as acting Chief Executive ensuring the channel has continued to run smoothly following Dawn’s departure. With Nick, Kevin Lygo, the other senior executives and the staff, Jane is inheriting one of the best teams in the business.”
Currently Chief Executive, Flextech, Lighting is in charge of five wholly owned channels, including LivingTV and Bravo, as well as Flextech's joint venture with the BBC, UKTV.
She recently led the launch of the latest addition to the BBC's Freeview digital platform, FTN, a general entertainment channel aimed at 16 to 44 year-olds.
She began her career in 1976 with distribution business Crown Cassette Communications, before moving on to training film company Video Arts.
She creating marketing and sales company Minotaur International in 1995, helping to establish it as one of the most successful distribution companies in the UK.
When Minotaur was bought in 1999 by Flextech, part of UK cable group Telewest, Lighting becoming Managing Director of Broadcast & TV, and in August 2002 she became the Chief Executive of Flextech.
Involved in trade bodies and government initiatives, Lighting founded the British Television Distributors Association (BTDA) in 1997, and has also been a member of the Exports Group of the Creative Industries Taskforce.
She is also sits on the Executive Committee for the Edinburgh International Television Festival and is a Governor of the National Film and Television School.
