Harrison introduces IKIS control system

Harrison has announced a new automation and system control for digital consoles.
The new IKIS console platform uses PCI technology and networked PCs and features a spectacular graphical user interface.
The launch of the new automation coincides with the imminent introduction of the MPC-D3; the next generation of all-digital motion picture console from Harrison. The combination of IKIS and the MPC-D3’s digital engine dramatically increases the speed and functionality of the total system, providing unparalleled features for the most demanding applications.
The hardware consists of standard PCs, the quantity being dependent on the number of people working the console. The multiple computers are connected via Ethernet with one PC set as a server and the others as clients. Automation data can be written and read in varispeed in forward or reverse with frame accuracy and the entire console image is saved with every pass. The computer saves the data automatically as a background operation, providing a high level of security in case of power failure or system malfunction. The automation is 'in place' at all times, thus eliminating the need for any pre-roll on passes.
IKIS also accesses a powerful new predub/monitor matrix that is equal to half the number of channels multiplied by 16 and a 'Toys Panel' that has the control of a range of plug-in options under development. The bussing capacity is remarkable, with up to 96 main busses, 32 aux, 32 reassigns and 16 listen busses.
New standards are set for control of EQ, panning, joystick and trackball, signal identification and labelling, PEC/Direct control, aux control, channel page and file storage. The EQ section offers extraordinary flexibility with two modes of operation; eight band paragraphic or four band 'magic' parametric plus two adjustable filters. In both modes the band is capable of 20Hz to 20kHz operation with a +/- 30dB of gain or cut with the frequency, gain and Q being fully adjustable. In addition, the shape of each band can be adjusted in the paragraphic mode from variable-Q bell, fixed-Q bell, notch, search, lo shelf, hi shelf, hi pass or lo pass. Other major benefits include operational speed and choice of parameters.
In addition to being the new platform for Harrison’s new MPC-D3, IKIS will also be offered as a simple upgrade to the successful digital versions of the Harrison MPC.
