Network Electronics's flashlink solution conducts EXPO-02

Network Electronics ASA's flashlink solution - a cost-effective optical transport platform – has completed a successful run at the opening ceremony of Switzerland's EXPO-02.
Using flashlink's Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system, one conductor was able to receive simultaneous and synchronous transmissions from four different cities and successfully conduct orchestras in each of them reaching an audience in excess of 800,000.
EXPO-02, Switzerland's national exhibition, is a snapshot of the country's current culture, politics and economics held once every generation. For the first time, however, the exhibition was held in multiple venues spread over a wide-spread region. The orchestras were located in cities between 23-60 miles from the conductor.
Roland Fisher, from Swiss Broadcaster SRG SSR idée Suisse, said: "It was of crucial importance for the conductor to have live and instant feeds from the other cities. We could, therefore, not tolerate any measurable delay in the transmission. After evaluating various types of technology, Network Electronics was evaluated to have the best solution."
Network Electronics ASA has installed over 60 DWDM systems and over 3,500 point-to-point systems worldwide during the last 12 months.
Network Electronics ASA's fiber optical product line, flashlink, transports up to 40 channels of uncompressed SDI, HD-SDI, DVB-ASI, SMPTE-305, SMPTE-310, Ethernet 10/100, Gigabit Ethernet and/or various Telco and data and signal rates up to 1 Gbps/channel on only one fiber.
Established in 1996, Network Electronics ASA is a leader in router technology with over 50,000 routers installed worldwide.
