Wise Buddah Movie Documentary Airs On Radio 1
BBC Radio 1 has broadcast the first of five new documentaries that it has commissioned from leading radio indie Wise Buddah.
'Making It On the Big Screen' aired on 27 February as part of the BBC Radio 1's Stories strand and followed the station's film critic Rhianna Dhillon as she took a close look at what it takes to get a job in the movie business both in-front of and behind the camera.
As well as contemplating making her own film through crowd funding, meeting actors and directors and taking acting classes, presenter Dhillon examined and explained some of the movie world’s more obscure job roles such as gaffer, ADR editor and clapper loader.
The 1x60-minute documentary is the first of five new Radio 1 commissions for Wise Buddah that will air in 2012.
The others are: 'SonicSuperHero: The Story of David Guetta', 'The Story Of The Blockbuster Game', 'Something For Nothing: The Truth Behind Internships' and 'BBC Radio 1's Stories: Let Me Into The Music.'
Wise Buddah head of content Simon Willis said: "This is the sixth high quality documentary we have produced for Radio 1 over the past 6 months, with four more in pre-production for the remainder of 2012. This is a very important part of Wise Buddah's new three year connected-content strategy so we're delighted to get Radio 1's continuing support".
'Making It On the Big Screen' featured interviews with Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe, Bafta Rising Star winner Adam Deacon and veteran actor Michael Pennington who plays Michael Foot in the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady.
Other contributions came from The Crying Game producer Stephen Whoolley, and Rory Aitken, the co-founder of production company Between The Eyes.
Described as a "fun and punchy" documentary, 'Making It On the Big Screen' combined studio and location based vox pops with fly-on-the-wall recording and a strong musical soundtrack that helped to drive both atmosphere and narrative.
It can be heard on the BBC iPlayer for the next seven days: http://bbc.in/ADKeGj
Researched, recorded and edited in a four-week period, the documentary was produced by Jade Hutchinson – who also came up with the original idea – alongside assistant producer Kirsty McQuire, executive producer Jo Meek and engineer Gurdeep Singh. The commissioning editor at Radio 1 was Piers Bradford.
The Radio 1's Stories strand airs on Monday nights at 9pm and covers a range of musical and cultural topics.
