Screen Subtitling Expands Portfolio

Screen Subtitling Systems known for its work with captioning and subtitling systems, is moving with the times expanding its portfolio to include a connected TV solution.
Having only recently acquired broadcast technology company SysMedia, Screen has now announced that it has obtained the On Screen Publishing connected TV solution, now named ‘ScreenConnect’, which allows the content owners to easily deploy and manage services across a range of connected TV platforms.
Its creator and On Screen Publishing director, Gordon Maynard has also joined the team at Screen as the product manager for connected TV.
As a former BBC employee and part of the team that formed Teletext on ITV and Channel 4, Maynard went on to transform Teletext from an analogue-only service to an operation which could publish content across all digital TV platforms as well as mobile and the web.
Gary Glover, Sales and Marketing Director for Screen said: "Screen’s strategy to develop a broader product range which satisfies market demand and complements its bedrock subtitling products and services clearly needed to include connected TV."
"With his pedigree and working knowledge of connected TV strategies and technology, Gordon Maynard was an obvious addition to the Screen team."
More recently as a media consultant, Maynard has advised service providers on connected TV strategy and developed tools to enable services to be created easily across the many IPTV platforms which are now available.
He commented: "The sheer number of connected TV platforms and the fact that an application has to be written for each one is driving many companies away from the market."
"The breadth of proprietary and standard based platforms such as MHEG-IC, MHP and the emerging HbbTV has generated a competitive market and led to the application of fragmented technology."
ScreenConnect offers service providers a tool for connected TV and tablets that allows the rapid deployment of services across multiple platforms, greatly reducing the time and cost in writing applications for each one.
Maynard concluded: "ScreenConnect will break down the current obstacles to creating services on connected TV. It has been designed from the ground up to support the wide range of platforms available now and to adapt as new ways of delivering connected TV emerge."
