SBS Broadcasting Selects Pixel Power For Graphics Playout Project

News Image
A supplier of broadcast graphics systems has announced that SBS Broadcasting Networks has selected the company’s technology to create a brand new graphics playout infrastructure, initially for nine of its free-to-air Scandinavian general entertainment channels.
The aim of the wide-reaching, state-of-the-art Pixel Power project is to create an integrated and united graphics workflow that will work seamlessly with SBS’ file-based infrastructure. Currently SBS is using three separate graphics systems and wishes to standardise across all channels as well as automating as much of the graphics production and playout as possible, including promo re-versioning.
SBS Broadcasting Networks, a pioneer of file-based playout, has ordered a wide range of graphics technology from Pixel Power including Clarity 3D, LogoVision 3D, Pixel Prep 3D and Pixel Promo Live. In addition the broadcaster has contracted the company to supply creative services for graphics template development, training and overall project management.
By purchasing Pixel Promo Live – a highly advanced customised software application that can be used to automate channel branding and promotion - SBS will be able to achieve complex automated graphics playout without compromising on quality.
Peter Simmons, Broadcast IT Manager with SBS Broadcasting Networks, said: “What we are aiming for is to take advantage of a simple united workflow for each channel. Promo re-versioning is very important to us, as is sharing content across a dynamic system. In this regard Pixel Promo Live is an exciting technology, especially its ability to automatically alter the length of events allowing last-minute timing changes. That’s obviously a great tool for our schedulers, particularly in live situations. What this new graphics technology offers us is a lot of open-ended propositions: there are any number of places that we can go, once we have the basics in there, in terms of scheduling and playout.”
James Gilbert, Joint Managing Director, Pixel Power, said: “Efficient workflows that also allow both flexibility and creativity have been central to our technology development. We are very pleased that this has been recognised by SBS Networks and we look forwards to working closely with them on this ongoing project.”
