EVS Broadcasts First 3D Ryder Cup

One of the world's most prestigious golfing events has been broadcast to the world, thanks to Telegenic who provided two 3D-HD OB vans, T18 and T19, along with the facilities to accommodate the equipment and personnel.
Ten EVS XT servers were used for live and near-live 3D operations, including live replays, highlights and closers.
BSkyB and leading outside broadcast facilities provider Telegenic recently teamed up for the four days of live 3D coverage of 2010 Ryder Cup.
Fast turnaround editing operations were managed with the newly upgraded 3D XTproduction servers from EVS.
The 3D sources around the golf course were managed with 3D camera rigs from 3ality and Element Technica (side by side and mirror rigs), and recorded with seven 3D XT[2] servers in dual-link (2x1.5Gbps), which allowed each server to ingest the feeds of 2 separate stereoscopic camera rigs.
The remaining XT[2] servers recorded content from selected HD cameras of the host broadcaster, European Tour Productions (ETP), which was up converted to 3D when needed. All EVS servers were linked to each other via the XNet2 high bandwidth media sharing network, allowing all recorded 3D content to be instantly available to the production team of Sky and ETP.
"The live 3D coverage of the Ryder Cup was a phenomenal experience, but also of great consequence,” explains Robin Broomfield, 3D Development Manager at Sky Sports.
"EVS always provides dependable systems with excellent networking capabilities that we have come to rely on over the years, and which help us to make these types of ground breaking productions happen today."
Peter Bates, Managing Director of Telegenic said: "The operation teams are very familiar and confident with EVS' live productions systems, which has made the 3D transition very easy for us to produce excellent productions with our new 3D trucks."
EVS Broadcast Equipment is a leader in the design of hardware and software for the production and playout of sport, news and TV programs in both live and near live environments.
Its innovative Live Slow Motion system revolutionized live broadcasting, and its instant tapeless technology is now widely used in nonlinear editing and High Definition Television the world over.
