London Celebrates Its Film Credentials On The Tube

Film London and the BFI London Film Festival have teamed up with Transport for London to produce the first ever Underground Film Map.
A unique reinterpretation of the famous London Underground map, the Underground Film Map has the station names changed to represent the past 70 years of films shot on location at or near London Underground Stations.
Launched to coincide with the 54th BFI London Film Festival, the Underground Film Map represents a plethora of the capital's film history with cinematic and broadcast icons. The majority of the stations represent films but in some instances famous British TV series have been represented or the station is named after a famous actor, director, producer or cinematographer born near the Underground Station.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "This is a fabulous reinterpretation of Pick's classic map. A handy guide to help kick off this year's London Film Festival, it shows the astonishing variety of films that have been made in the capital and the wealth of international talent that emanates from this most cinematic of cites."
London is the third busiest filming production city in the world and is home to approximately 75% of the UK's film industry. The range of films from all over the world found on the Underground Film Map demonstrates that the capital is a location of choice for major international blockbusters, legendary filmmakers from across the globe as well as homegrown gems.
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London, said: "On average there are approximately 35 crews shooting on location in the capital every day and that wealth of filmmaking can be seen in this wonderful Underground Film Map. From the obvious titles such as Bourne Ultimatum at Waterloo Station and V for Vendetta blowing up the House of Parliament at Westminster, to the more surprising including The Dark Knight's Batcave in Vauxhall and An Education filming in Walthamstow, this map plots out the capital's credentials as one of the world's most popular film cities."
Since Film London, the capital's agency for film and media, was launched in 2004 filming in London has increased by a massive 30%. Recently, the capital has welcomed and award-winning directors such as Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Tim Burton and Steven Spielberg as well as hosting blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Captain America.
Last year the film industry contributed approximately £3.38 billion to the British economy.
The Underground Film Map will be on sale from the BFI Film Store at BFI Southbank, London Transport Museum Shop, Covent Garden and online from TfL at: www.tfl.gov.uk/shop.
