On-Air Systems and Avid to provide IBC TV News
On-Air Systems, the broadcast automation systems company, has announced that it will partner with Avid Technology Europe to provide an editing and playout solution to IBC TV News, which will supply broadcast news from the conference and exhibition halls throughout IBC 2002.
The IBC TV News set-up will use an Avid Xpress system as a digitising station with three Avid Media Composer 9000 XL nonlinear editing systems connected to an Avid Unity LANshare EX shared storage system. The finished material will be played out from the Avid Unity LANshare EX via On-Air Studio, a live virtual continuity studio and transmission playout automation system, which allows the operator to control all the elements normally found in a Master Control Room. On-Air TxCG works on top of On-Air Studio to provide graphics content.

The installation builds on On-Air Systems’ relationship with Avid, which is the result of a forthcoming installation for YLE, the national Finnish broadcaster. YLE chose Avid editing and networking systems working with On-Air Systems’ PC-based broadcast automation solutions for each of its eight regional stations, with installation starting in September 2002 – five stations will be delivered this year, with the remaining three planned for 2003. Avid Nordic will be the systems integrator on the project.
