Channel 4 to hold pitch competition at SIDF

Channel 4 are to hold a pitch competition at this year's Sheffield International Documentary Festival (SIDF).
Twelve short-listed directors will be invited to pitch their ideas in front of a panel of commissioners and an audience of festival delegates. The winner will be awarded £30,000 to make a one hour film for late peak on Channel 4.
Independent Film and Video is the department at Channel 4 dedicated to finding and developing new filmmaking talent. This prize is part of their search for a new generation of directors who want to tackle popular stories and subjects in a fresh and intelligent way.
Those interested should submit ideas for a one-hour documentary that would be suitable to transmit on Channel 4 at either 10.30 or 11.30pm. The organisers recommend that entrants concentrate on ideas with popular appeal - either films with strong narrative stories, with surprising access or with an interesting argument to drive them.
The directors of the best twelve ideas selected will be invited to take part in the pitch event at Sheffield from October 24 - 26 2002.
