THE BBC have ordered four VIP Clip clipstore upgrades to their dual channel Aston Ethos character generators.
The VIP Clips will be installed at BBC Graphics and post-production in London's Television Centre to further boost the department's live presentation capabilities.
Graphics Duty Manager Brian Hopkins said: "We trialed VIP Clip on one of our Ethos units on the 'Song For Europe' programme which went out live this spring. and we found that it sufficiently rationalised the production with its clip and DVE capability. As a cost effective solution it can really save money on these graphics-heavy live shows, and now the 'Watchdog' production teams have also decided to use it for their various early evening consumer programming strands."
In addition to the four VIP Clip upgrades, the BBC have also purchased another complete Ethos character generator for the Digital Edit Suite 6 area at Television Centre, where it is being used on the UK's top rated music programme 'Top of the Pops'.
Ethos is Aston's most powerful dedicated SD character generator. With two independent transmission outputs, a fully featured stills store, video grab, animations and paint capability Ethos has developed into a favoured presentation tool for many live events and OBs.
VIP Clip adds a fully integrated clips store with a real-time DVE and editing functions.
