AudioLoc Upgrades With Fairlight Xynergi And Pyxis MT

One of Australia's premier film sound post facilities, AudioLoc, has continued its ongoing Fairlight upgrade with the purchase of a second Xynergi Media Production Centre and a new Pyxis MT system.
Based in Sydney, AudioLoc has been using Fairlight equipment for more than 20 years, with two legacy 48 channel QDC systems and fourteen vintage 24 channel MFX3+ systems still in service. The upgrade involves replacing two of these legacy systems with Fairlight's latest generation CC-1 systems.
Tony Vaccher, Audio Director at AudioLoc, said: "We decided to upgrade to Fairlight's CC-1 technology in order to adapt to the changing world of High Definition production in film and video.
"CC-1 gives us the ability to work with 24FPS High Definition pictures and allows us to play HD video and a large number of audio tracks simultaneously."
The new systems have been installed in AudioLoc's main Dolby SRD/IMAX Mixing Facility and its main Foley/ADR stage.
One system is being used to mix feature films and IMAX films, while the other is being used to record and edit Foley and ADR.
Vaccher added: "Installing the latest technology gives us the opportunity to tap into a range of new features. We are particularly impressed with the Xynergi controller because it adapts so well to the task at hand.
"It also gives us the security if knowing that future innovations can easily be implemented via software upgrades."
AudioLoc offers comprehensive sound post supervision and management for cinema, IMAX, television and sound installations.
This includes Dolby Digital re-recording and mixing, sound design and editing, as well as international ADR and Foley recording services via Source Connect and FTP. The company has a wide range of facilities including Dolby SRD and IMAX film dubbing theatres, 5.1 television mixing theatres, ADR and Foley recording studios, sound editing studios and a direct mixing theatre interface with Screen Australia's 200-seat cinema.
Recent projects undertaken at AudioLoc include the entire sound post production of Jane Campion's new film Bright Star, mixing facilities for George Miller's Happy Feet; total sound post on five IMAX films including Antarctica and Imagine 3D as well as numerous television projects including Seven Network's All Saints, which have five times won an Australian Screen Sound Guild award for Best Sound in a Television Drama. They are currently working on the feature films, Broken Hill and The Clinic.
Tony Vaccher said: "Obviously we are very pleased with our latest Fairlight upgrade because it greatly expedites output to a variety of delivery formats. But it is also worth mentioning how much we appreciate the dedication and service that Fairlight has provided to us since 1985 when we bought our first CMI Series 3."
Fairlight Asia Pacific Sales Director Lukas Bower added: "It is great to see another longstanding customer adopt Fairlight's latest technology. We look forward to providing AudioLoc great solutions for the next 20 years - and beyond."
