BBC Scotland Ballot Given More Time As Talks Continue

A vote on industrial action in the BBC Scotland's operation is to get a new deadline.
The move is said to be to allow ongoing talks between the BBC management and the union room to continue.
Trade union BECTU has succeeded in getting agreement with the BBC north of the border that the closing date of the industrial action ballot in Glasgow will be extended by 28 days.
The ballot, which was due to close today 20 March, will now close on Friday 17 April.
Commenting on the decision, BECTU Scottish Official, Paul McManus said: "BECTU is in detailed discussions with management at present over members affected by planned post closures for year two of the Creative Futures proposals.
"Both parties have agreed that these talks would not be helped by the announcement of a ballot result while talks continue," he said.
BECTU formally notified the BBC in February that it would ballot its members in Glasgow to resist compulsory redundancies.
They said they were balloting on foot of proposed cuts and how they would affect staff targeted by year two of the corporation's Creative Futures proposals.
Management are in the final stages of a selection process to close 17 posts in TV Production with a smaller number of other compulsory redundancies threatened in other departments in Glasgow.
The ballot was originally to close on 26 March with the unions involved set to meet with their members to agree a course of action soon afterwards.
Now it will not close until mid-April following continued discussions with the BBC.
These started late last year in an effort to avoid the looming dispute.
Last month a "failure to agree" recorded at a meeting with Nations and Regions management, left the joint unions with no alternative but to commence statutory ballots for industrial action, said a BECTU spokesman.
BECTU is the independent trade union for those working in broadcasting, film, theatre, entertainment, leisure, interactive media and allied areas.
