VMI RED DIT Course Takes Place This Week

VMI's RED DIT course will take place on March 17.
This one day workshop will take seven camera assistants and operators from having no prior RED knowledge to being able to work in a RED DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) capacity in one day.
IT literacy is essential for those taking part, but no prior experience of RED cameras is required.
The course will cover basic camera setup, camera operation, best practice, bug awareness and data management and is essential preparation for anyone planning to shoot with this exciting new format.
The course is limited to seven places for maximum hands-on operation, but two places are left.
The course will cover the following:
  • Role of RED DIT
  • Building the RED camera
  • Pre-shoot check-list and setup
  • Speed ramping
  • Recording onto RED CF Cards
  • Recording onto RED RAID hard drives
  • Which media to use and when
  • Inputs and Outputs for body
  • Audio operation and setup
  • Basic operation and first-line maintenance
  • Format decision and operation 2K, 3K, 4K
  • Redcode 28 vs. REDcode 36
  • Menu operation and structure
  • RAW and in-camera LUTs - Redspace REC709, rAWVIEW
  • ISO and RAW
  • Good working practices
  • Data management
  • Common bugs
  • Laptop Management
  • Redcine - basic overview
  • RED Rushes - basic overview
The course will be given by Tom Turley, RED DIT who has been working on RED Cameras since late 2007.
Handouts will be given out on the day and a certificate produced on completion of the course.
The course will take place at VMI Soho, 19 D'Arblay Street, W1F 8ED and costs £200 plus VAT.
A free place is available when you book your HD kit from VMI.
Future VMI events include an HD for Producers Seminar on April 15, a P2 & AVC Intra tapeless workshop on June 9 and an XDCAM EX & HD tapeless workshop on June 30.
An HD-DoP one day course with Paul Wheeler will also take place on April 15. A free place on the HD DoP course is also offered when HD camera hire kits are hired from VMI.
