Media Distributors Unveils New Remote Post-Production Solution For Turnkey On-Location Video Editing

Media Distributors, a leading provider of services, systems and products for professional audio and video production has announced that its Rental Station division has unveiled a new on-location post-production solution, The Remote Station, for turnkey video editing and storage management.
The Remote Station debuted during the recent three-day production of the 30th anniversary Ford Ironman Triathlon in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The 2008 Ford Ironman World Championship will air on NBC on December 13 from 2:30pm to 4pm ET.
The Media Distributors Remote Station consists of a road-ready HD editing system secured in two Anvil style road cases. Each Remote Station includes a high-end Panasonic SD/HD-SDI video monitor; Genelec reference speakers; Mackie audio mixer and customised latest-generation Apple Mac Pros running Final Cut Studio 2.
The detachable accessory-case lid features folding legs to form a comfortable and sturdy editing desk for on-location use. The Ironman Remote Station setup was powered by a high-speed Storage Area Network (SAN) on 4Gb fibre for immediate, shared access to all media by each editor.
Steve Klein, CEO of Media Distributors, said: "There is an increasing demand from our clients to deliver end-to-end solutions that bridge from production to post-production. We established our Rental Station division earlier this year to show our clients how to embrace new technology safely.
"Our pre-configured fleet of HD edit systems is great for local projects, but we feel like the Remote Station is an ideal solution for remote locations or for professionals who need a real-world post-production solution for digital dailies, media archival using LTO or even just editing with tight deadlines.
"With a short consultation up front, we can customise the Remote Station to the specific needs of each client, no matter where they are or what they're doing, all the way up to 4:4:4 HD and 4K work. For Ironman, we delivered four Final Cut editing systems connected by a SAN for a fully customised, mobile, networked post-production facility on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean.
Shot from October 10-12, 2008, the Ironman production covered the world's toughest endurance event. The culmination of more than thirty global Ironman events, more than 1,800 athletes completed a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run.
The swim starts and finishes at Kailua Pier, the bike takes cyclists along the Kona and Kohala Coasts and the run course travels through Kailua-Kona. Athletes finish their 140.6-mile journey to the cheers of more than 20,000 spectators on Alii Drive. More than 70,000 athletes vie each year for slots to the Ford Ironman World Championship.
Brandon Yates, of Yates & Parks Consulting, who was in charge of on-site editing equipment for the production, said: "The Remote Station was flawless; we literally opened up to the case and started set-up. We needed to set up nineteen cameras ingest and edit material in a constant flow, so we had no time to waste.
"We shot a great deal of footage prior to the actual triathlon, and could organise our assets quickly, without stress before the real crunch time. As we were on the northeast side of the big island, we had no means of back-up or escape from our setting. We decided to use Final Cut Pro a few years ago on the Ironman production; we couldn't find a rental company serious about renting Final Cut Pro rigs, until we met up with Media Distributors. The Media Distributors crew designed a solution that stood up to the most intense on-location conditions."
