Brazil's TV Globo Purchases Digital Vision's Nucoda HD Colour Grading System

Digital Vision, a supplier of picture enhancement systems for film and television post-production, has announced that TV Globo, headquartered in Brazil, has purchased a Nucoda HD colour grading system with DVO Enhance image processing options.
The Nucoda system will become an integral part of the tapeless workflow being put into place as the South American broadcaster continues its migration to high definition production and transmission.
TV Globo is one of the world's largest and most productive commerical television stations; the media organisation is the fourth largest in the world. TV Globo began airing programmes in high definition in 2007 and has continued to update and refine its processes and equipment. The purchase of the Nucoda HD adds an essential capability to their post-production pipeline.
Nelson Faria, Head of Production Engineering at TV Globo, indicated the broadcaster had carefully evaluated its options in choosing a colour grading system for HD mastering.
Integrating the DVO Enhance tools into the existing workflow was critical to delivering the quality required for HD transmission and Blu-ray disc; Emmy award-winning DVO Enhance contains a number of patented processes that can reduce electronic noise and film grain, enhance picture detail and pre-process for the best encodes. Tests have shown that users can achieve up to 25% reduction in bit rates without touching perceived picture quality.
TV Globo shoots extensively and has a prolific slate of programmes underway at all times. Faria commented: "We are working around the clock and the post pipeline and colour grading pathway must be incredibly strong and flexible. The environment is high-demad in terms of quality and quantity; the Nucoda HD system more than measured up."
Simon Cuff, President and COO, Digital Vision, commented: "We are pleased that TV Globo will use Nucoda HD as an essential master grading component in its new HD workflow. With the quality demands and the sheer volume of programmes, the inherent strengths and picture quality Nucoda HD delivers will be invaluable to the pipeline at TV Globo. We are excited to be a part of this upgrade."
