Editshare's Winning Performance At Olympics Leads To Full-Time Installation At SVT

Editshare, a technology leader in cross platform collaborative editing and shared media storage, announced that SVT, the Swedish public television network, has purchased an EditShare 3RU with 8 TBs of storage for use in its network drama department.
The SVT Sports Division had leased an EditShare from Danmon Svenska as part of their intensive coverage of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. The time-savings and workflow improvements realised from the EditShare during the Games convinced SVT that EditShare could add similar benefits to production efforts in other departments.
Carl Carpelan, who was responsible for setting up the IT and editing infrastructure for SVT's Beijing Olympics facility, found the EditShare was easy to install and incredibly reliable.
Carpelan said: "It only took about a half hour to hook up the EditShare on network with the 4 Media Composers. We were producing a lot of HD inserts for the 2-hour long evening wrap-ups, so it was great to have to ingest only once - field work in particular, right from the Panasonic P2 cameras. The material was on the EditShare for whoever needed to use it. With six editors, it was much better than storing it locally. It was very reliable and when compared to other alternatives, very affordable."
Comparing the EditShare workflow to SVT's prior experience during the 2006 Winter Games in Torrino where tapes were swapped around, Carpelan added: "There's no going back to something like that. I'd say the EditShare is the only option going forward."
