Fusion Splicing Technology Available For LEMO's HDTV Connectors And Cables

LEMO, a leading designer and manufacturer of precision custom connection solutions, has an exclusive partnership with 3SAE Technologies, offering a breakthrough technology allowing for both factory and on-site termination by replacing the fiber optic connector polish process with a spliced fiber contact inside a 3K.93C LEMO connector.
This process removes the need for the fiber epoxy and polish process, allowing for quicker and simpler termination for build-to-order, installation or repair applications.
Fusion splice equipment has been used in field applications for years with fiber and is now available to benefit the broadcast industry. This proven technology reduces the time and the level of expertise required for terminating the LEMO fiber-optic hybrid connectors. The termination process makes it much easier to attach or repair 3K.93C connectors in the field due to the simplicity, portability and reliability of fusion splicing.
In these field environments where it is impossible to pull through pre-terminated cables, or where replacement of connectors is required on-site, the best option is fiber splicing. Unterminated cable can be installed separately and, at an appropriate time, a factory terminated connector pigtail assembly can be quickly spliced and terminated to the installed cable.
Timothy J. Hassett, General Manager, LEMO USA, commented: "We saw the need to add this technology to our line of value added products so that we can expand our service in the fiber optic marketplace. The mix of the fusion splice product with our existing industry proven connectors, provides a unique combination of operational excellence and customer focused business solutions. In addition, this new offering to our existing customer base as well as new customers provides LEMO with a unique opportunity to grow."
3SAE Technologies, whose expertise is in developing and marketing new fiber optic tools and technologies for optical fiber fusion splicing and related products has teamed up with LEMO to provide the fusion splicing technology to LEMO customers. They will provide the tools to allow LEMO to offer field-termination using the proven fusion-splice technology inside the connector shell. With this new technology field repair-in-shop connector termination of SMPTE cable assemblies will be faster and more cost effective due to the elimination of field polishing. Don Grasso, CEO of 3SAE Technologies, said: "We are excited to be partnering with LEMO on this new innovative solution to provide a high-quality, cost-effective solution to those in the field."
