Apology Follows IRA Movie Premier 'Gaff'

An apparent gaff by an actress at the Toronto Film Festival when she attended the premier of the film 'Fifty Dead Men Walking' on the life of a high profile informer within the IRA has led to an apology from the film's executives.
Guy Collins, Chairman of Hand-Made Films International, speaking on behalf of the co-producers said he recognised that Rose McGowan comments including "that she would have joined the IRA if she had lived in Belfast during the Troubles" were insulting to victims of IRA terrorism.
Noting that McGowan, who stars in the film, also said, "My heart just broke for the cause"
the film executive responded: "We were surprised and disappointed by the comments made by Ms McGowan (who has a major role in the movie).
"To the best of our knowledge, her now-stated views were never expressed at any time before, during or after the shooting of the film, until the press conference ahead of the gala screening last week.
"Her opinions run entirely contrary to the stated aims of the film which has always been to tell one man's story viewed from both sides of the conflict," he said.
'Fifty Dead Men Walking' is an adaptation of IRA informer Martin McGartland's autobiography.
