The Chimney Pot Kiev Deploys D Vinci 2K Plus Colour Grading System

da Vinci Systems, a leading provider of colour enhancement and image restoration products, have announced that The Chimney Pot, a post-production company with facilities in Scandinavia, Easter Europe and Dubai, have deployed the company's 2K Plus colour enhancement system at its Kiev, Ukraine, location. The facility's 2K Plus will be used for colour enhancement on a variety of projects including music videos and television commercials.
The Chimney Pot Senior Colourist Rob Lingelbach, who in January was brought in from California to oversee colour grading at the Kiev facility and to train local staff, said: "Lighting conditions in Europe are not always ideal, particularly when film is shot in winter. Clouds, rain, snow and limited spans of daylight all challenge the colourist. For that reason, colour timing frequently demands exquisite control and touch. The comprehensive toolkit of the 2K Plus allows a colourist to meet Mother Nature's challenges with aplomb. In addition, it's important to note the responsiveness of da Vinci's engineering staff, which is crucial to us as a boutique facility."
Recent projects for The Chimney Pot Kiev include music video entries in the annual Eurovision Song Contest. The entries relied extensively on the 2K Plus, requiring multiple PowerWindows, Defocus Plus in blacks and whites, flesh-tone defocus, multiple power vectors and kilovector manipulation. The results, according to clients and colourists, were stunning.
Beyond the toolkit, a particular advantage of the da Vinci 2K Plus is that it has been widely accepted worldwide, meaning that The Chimney Pot clients from neighbouring nations such as Kazakhstan, Belorussia and Uzbekistan are already familiar with its operation and capabilities. This familiarity facilitates communication between client and colourist, thus contributing both to efficiency and to the quality of the final product.
Dean Lyon, da Vinci Marketing Director, said: "When facilities are faced with challenging conditions but still strive for the best possible artistic results, as is the case with The Chimney Pot, da Vinci continues to provide the tools that allow them to reach their vision. The 2K and 2K Plus remain among the most popular, useful and versatile pieces of equipment in post-production workflows all over the world."
The da Vinci 2K Plus is the worldwide standard in colour enhancement. Traditionally used for linear colour timing, the 2K Plus also offers a highly successful nonlinear DI (digital intermediate) workflow. The Chimney Pot has already deployed the 2K Plus in several of its other locations, including its Moscow facility, where it is used for commercial work and also for feature films.
