Get 'The Edge' With The North East Border Region's €10,000 Film Award
The Louth, Newry & Mourne Film Commission is inviting filmmakers in the region to get 'The Edge'.
The commission, which is tasked with promoting the Northeast border area as an attractive location for film and television productions, is offering funding of €10,000 through its latest initiative - 'The Edge', a cross-border production award.
The award, in conjunction with the Department of Arts, Sport & Tourism and Bord Scannán na hÉireann (Irish Film Board), is open to all genres of film - documentary, short film, pilot, to new media projects, provided they come in with a budget of €10,000.
All entries must be filmed in the Louth, Newry & Mourne region and they must portray the North East border region in a positive light, acting as an attraction to other filmmakers. The main creative team must also come from the border area.
Mairtín de Barra, Director of the Louth, Newry & Mourne Film Commission, said: "This is a great opportunity to showcase the growing film talent in the border area. We want to fund a vibrant project, which will not only capture people's imagination, but one which will also have a long shelf life. We are especially keen on entries constituting as pilots for TV series with the potential of further production taking place in the border region if commissioned.
"The winning piece will be funded and finished by the end of the year, making this an exciting project for anyone with a script and a team, but without the budget."
Welcoming the initiative, Mags O'Sullivan, Deputy Film Commissioner with the Irish Film Board, said: "The Louth, Newry & Mourne region has a fantastic wealth of talent and scenery making it a prime location for filmmakers both in Ireland and on an international scale. The Irish Film Board is delighted to be associated with 'The Edge' award as part of its continued commitment to developing filmmaking talent nationwide."
Michael Curran, Director of Services, Community, Enterprise & Economic Development with Louth County Council, added: "This is a great start to a number of initiatives supported by ourselves and Newry & Mourne District Council with the support of the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism and Bord Scannán na hÉireann to foster film making talent in this region. While showcasing our region to others, it's also a great opportunity for local filmmakers to work in their own locality and engage with their communities."
Entries for 'The Edge' €10,000 award must be submitted by July 15, 2008. Full competition terms and conditions, along with application criteria can be found on the web-site at: www.filmcommission.ie.
