Leader Introduces LV58SER04 Multistandard MPEG Decoder

Leader announces the availability of a powerful new option for its LV5800 modular multi-monitor platform.
The LV58SER04 decoder module allows MPEG-2 compressed DVB-ASI signals to be decoded and displayed as a video waveform, video vector or monitor image.
It can decode high-definition 1080i and 720p at 50, 59.94 and 60 Hz as well as standard-definition 480l/59.94 and 576l/50. Other capabilities include display of transport stream bit rate, ETSI ETR-290-compatible errors, programme information, programme association table and programme map table.
When operated in conjunction with Leader's LV58SER40 digital audio module, the decoder also allows MPEG-2 ACC, Dolby Digital (AC3) and MPEG-1 audio extraction and channel monitoring with signal level and lissajous waveform display.
Paul Vos, Managing Director of elQuip BV, said: "The LV58SER04 attracted a very high level of interest when shown in prototype at IBC2007 and received a Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award from a panel of independent broadcasters. MPEG-2 is a very widely deployed compression standard, but it needs to be monitored carefully as too low a transmission stream bitrate can play havoc with programme quality. The module itself occupies a single slot of the four-slot LV5800 expansion bay so makes a very space-efficient and economical alternative to deploying an entire separate unit for MPEG-2 measurements."
Leader’s established LV5800 platform enables up to eight SD-SDI or HD-SDI sources to be monitored and up to four channels to be displayed simultaneously for level, rise time, fall time and jitter. Signal feeds can be monitored autonomously, producing an error log with alarm whenever operator-definable thresholds are violated.
Screens and information shown on the high-resolution display can optionally be output to any compatible XGA monitor. Audio bar graphs have selected dynamic range and peak or average display ballistics. Audio channel order can be remapped, enabling users to create custom displays. Extended-AES/EBU and analog monitoring outputs are available. Standard USB memory devices can be used to capture LV5800 screen images, configuration settings and software/firmware updates.
